Pitching Woes Continue

It is getting close to the beginning of the season and I am still awaiting a quality performance from any of the starting pitchers. What is the problem? The ERA of our starters in spring training keeps escalating, rather than decreasing. If things do not change in a hurry, we will be out of the pennant race in July.

I am also having difficulty understanding why Boone Logan was sent down, while David Aardsma made the team. If Aardsma was not good enough for the Cubs to keep around, why should we expect him to be better with the White Sox (remember Jamie Navarro)? I realize that Boone Logan had a great spring last year and then “bombed out” when he came up with the team, but his is a new year. He had a great spring and deserved a chance to come north with the club.

I am in total agreement about Logan. This kid pitched lights out- 11 scoreless innings. What more does he have to do? I also agree I am a bit nervous with our pitching staff going in. Buehrle has not pitched well since June ‘06 and the others have not had very impressive ERAs last year or this spring. Also it may be early but I believe Floyd is a bust but if Gio comes through then the Garcia trade will be a success. I am also one who does not read too much into what happens in spring. It is more difficult to get great movement on pitches in the Arizona climate and many of the pitchers have been tweeking new or less used pitches. I am confident in Garland and Vazquez but concerned for the rest- especially Danks. I just hope he can pitch and gain confidence while showing MLB he is one of the top prospects in the game.

Boone Logan will be back. He is too good to hide in AAA ball. Trade him if you can’t use him. He and his uncle were my golfing partners this summer. He is a fine young man.
